Product Information
BTTAA is a covalent adduct of two molecules, the boronic acid and the thiol-containing amino acid. BTTAA is derived from the naturally occurring antimicrobial peptide, bactenecin. BTTAA is synthesized by chemical ligation to form a molecule that has an extended structure with a hydrophobic region and a hydrophilic region. The hydrophobic region can be used as a probe for fatty acids and membrane lipid bilayers, while the hydrophilic region can be used to identify cancer tissues. BTTAA has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria such as S. aureus, but not against gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli.
