Product Information
5-Chloroisophthalonitrile is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antioxidant properties. It is found in plants and has been used as an ingredient in medicines and other products. 5-Chloroisophthalonitrile is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone. It can be produced by hydrolysis of the flavonoid glycoside sophoradiol. The functional theory of photosensitization suggests that the electron transfer from 5-chloroisophthalonitrile to chlorophyll leads to the formation of singlet oxygen, which damages DNA and other biomolecules. This process can be prevented by addition of antioxidants such as vitamin C or E.
