4-Amino-6,7-dimethoxy-1H-quinazolin-2-one hydrochloride (4ADMQ) is a synthetic androgen receptor antagonist. It has been shown to inhibit prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by blocking the growth of the cancer cells. 4ADMQ is also effective for the treatment of symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The long-term efficacy of 4ADMQ has been statistically proven in clinical trials that lasted up to 18 months. 4ADMQ is a controlled release preparation that can be administered orally. This drug also has a diastolic pressure lowering effect on congestive heart failure patients. When used with doxazosin, 4ADMQ shows an apoptotic effect on prostate cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme inhibitors for nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase.
