3-(5-Bromo-2-thienyl)-1-propene is a monomer used in the production of polymers. It can be polymerized by means of Grignard chemistry, which results in a polymer with a steric bulk. The polymerization process is initiated by an initiator and the monomers are transferred from one molecule to another. Polycondensation occurs when two or more monomers form a bond, resulting in the formation of macromolecules. 3-(5-Bromo-2-thienyl)-1-propene can also be used as an initiator for the synthesis of polymers with different properties (e.g., polyesters).
