1,2-Di(4-bromophenyl)-1,2-diphenylethylene (DPDPE) is a luminescent material that can be used in nanoporous materials. It has been shown to have picric properties and is polymerized by the addition of reactive monomers. DPDPE has been shown to emit light when excited with UV light or energy transfer from other molecules such as picric acid. The emission spectrum ranges from 400 nm to 600 nm and its luminescence properties are dependent on the energy transfer mechanism. DPDPE has also been shown to have chemiluminescence properties and can be used for detection of acids.
