Dioxindolyl-L-alanine is an amino acid that is synthesized by the hydroxylation of L-serine, catalyzed by serine hydroxymethyltransferase. The product then undergoes a series of conformational changes and is converted to the final product, dioxindolyl-L-alanine. This amino acid can be found in a number of different organisms and it has been shown to have a role in mutagenesis, as well as the biosynthesis of serotonin.
