7,8-Dihydro-2-methyl-1H-thiopyrano[4,3-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one is a glutamate receptor antagonist that blocks the NMDA (N-methyl D-aspartate) receptor. It has been shown to be clinically effective in the treatment of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. 7,8-Dihydro-2-methyl-1H-thiopyrano[4,3-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one also inhibits neuronal death in clinical studies. 7,8-Dihydro-2-methyl -1H -thiopyrano[4,3 -d]pyrimidin -4(5H) -one is also used to treat acute stroke patients with locomotor difficulties.
