Description

1-Methyl-3-(4-sulfobutyl)imidazolium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide is a nonrandom sequence of ionic liquids that consists of 1-methyl-3-(4-sulfobutyl)imidazolium cation and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion. It has a density of 1.0 g/mL at 20°C, which is about twice the density of water. The experimental enthalpies for the formation of this ionic liquid have been determined using microbalance experiments. The quadratic equation was used to determine the constants for these enthalpies, and these constants were then used to calculate the enthalpy values for other temperatures. This ionic liquid has a melting point of -30°C, which is higher than that of water (-100°C).
