1-Benzofuran-3-carboxamide (1BFC) is a synthetic, organic solvent that inhibits the NS5B polymerase of the hepatitis C virus. 1BFC has been shown to inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). This agent has pharmacophoric features that are similar to 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C receptor ligands and benzofuran derivatives with antiviral activities. The compound shows polymorphism in different crystalline forms and can be used as an active natural product or as an analog.
