N,4-Dimethoxy-N-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is an analytical standard for HPLC and an impurity in a drug product. It is synthesized by the condensation of 4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde with cyclohexanone. This compound has been found to be a metabolite of several drugs including amitriptyline, bupropion, citalopram, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, fluoxetine, imipramine, maprotiline, mirtazapine, nortriptyline and trimipramide. N,4-Dimethoxy-N-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is used as a pharmacopoeia reference material for the quantification of amphetamines in urine.
