Product Information
- Ytterbium(+2) Cation Trichloride Hexahydrate
Ytterbium(III) chloride hexahydrate (YbCl3•6H2O) is a fluorescent lanthanide that is used in analytical chemistry and chemical biology. Ytterbium(III) chloride hexahydrate has been shown to be useful for detecting zearalenone, which is a mycotoxin that causes infertility and miscarriages in cattle. This compound can also be used to detect other metal ions, such as gold nanoparticles, by incorporation of the metal ion into the membrane system. The fluorescence and fluorescence lifetime of YbCl3•6H2O are sensitive to changes in pH and metal ion concentration. Ytterbium(III) chloride hexahydrate also has the ability to enhance bilayer formation in aqueous systems, which makes it an immobilizing agent.
