1,8-Dimethoxynaphthalene is a compound that has been shown to have anti-diabetic activity. It inhibits the transfer mechanism of glucose into the cell by inhibiting the transport of glucose across the mitochondrial membrane. This inhibition leads to an increase in the concentration of intracellular glucose and an increase in mitochondrial membrane potential. 1,8-Dimethoxynaphthalene also has endophytic properties which are transferred to plants through its mycelium. The fungus can then be found in plant tissues such as roots, leaves, stems, and flowers.
