5-Methyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole (5MPO) is a ligand in the form of a white crystalline powder with a melting point of about 118°C and a boiling point at about 280°C. The compound has been shown to be ancillary to stabilizing the optical spectrum of some compounds which have been shown to shift the spectrum in the visible region. 5MPO has also been shown to bind with high affinity to transition metals and is commonly used in organic synthesis as an acetonitrile solvent.
