Dibenzosuberenol is a fluorescent molecule that emits light when irradiated with UV light. It absorbs radiation in the UV region of the spectrum and converts it to visible light, which has a wavelength of about 400-700 nm. Dibenzosuberenol can be used as a control agent for polymaleic acid, trifluoroacetic acid and amides. The hydroxyl group on dibenzosuberenol reacts with the amide group in compounds and crosslinks them to form thermosetting plastics. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is an example of such a polymer. X-ray crystal structures have been obtained for the protonated form of dibenzosuberenol together with its complex with polyvinyl chloride.
