Description

Crotonic acid sec-butyl ester is a polymerized crotonic acid that is used as a secondary standard for calibration of infrared spectrometers. Crotonic acid sec-butyl ester is composed of an amine, carboxylic acid, and alcohol and has no color, odor, or taste. The polymerized crotonic acid can be synthesized by reacting crotonic acid with butanol in the presence of a suitable catalyst. This reaction system can be calibrated using a secondary standard such as crotonic acid sec-butyl ester.
