Potassium perruthenate is a homogeneous catalyst that is used in the oxidation of organic substrates. It has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid. Potassium perruthenate has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties. The mechanism of this effect may be due to its ability to induce cell death by damaging DNA, as well as its ability to inhibit methylation, which is important in tumor growth. Potassium perruthenate has also been shown to induce apoptosis and activate caspase-3 in vitro.
