2-Ethoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran is a reagent that can be used for the preparation of various compounds. It is often used as a source of hydride transfer in enzymatic assays. 2-Ethoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran reacts with alkyl halides and acetonitrile to form quaternary ammonium salts and vinyl ethers respectively. The reaction proceeds by hydration, amine addition, or irradiation. This compound can also be used to prepare reactive naphthalenes and amines through an alkylation reaction. The reaction can be carried out at temperatures ranging from -78°C to 100°C.
