Description:
1-Acetylindole-2-carboxylic acid (1AICA) is a racemic compound that can be used as a building block for the synthesis of other compounds with biological activity. 1AICA can be synthesized from indole by reacting with acetic anhydride in the presence of sodium acetate, yielding 1AICA in high yield. Racemization is easily achieved using metal hydrides, alkali metal hydroxides, or alkoxide. The solvents used for this reaction are hexane and ethyl ether.
