8-Phenyl-1-octanol is a lipophilic compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in mice. It inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators, such as hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE), and reduces the expression of proinflammatory genes, such as intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1). 8-Phenyl-1-octanol also increases the production of anti-inflammatory mediators, such as lipoxins and prostaglandin E2. This compound has been shown to be effective in reducing chronic inflammation induced by carrageenan in rats. 8-Phenyl-1-octanol is soluble in lipids and can be solubilized with surfactants such as Tween 20.
