Product Information

Name:
2-Bromotetradecanoic acid
Synonyms:
  • 2-Bromomuyristic acid
  • NSC 58380
  • Tetradecanoic acid, 2-bromo-
  • α-Bromomyristic acid
Description:

2-Bromotetradecanoic acid is a fatty acid that has been shown to inhibit replication of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This drug acts as a non-nucleoside inhibitor, which inhibits the function of reverse transcriptase. 2-Bromotetradecanoic acid has demonstrated antiviral potency against HIV in cell culture, and it also inhibits the growth of cryptococcus neoformans. The 2-bromo substituted carbon atom on this molecule may be responsible for its antiviral activity by interfering with the binding of nucleoside analogues to the viral DNA enzyme reverse transcriptase.
