Description:
1-Benzyl-3-ethyl-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline hydrochloride is a prodrug of the active form, benzylisoquinoline (BIQ). It has been shown to have a low bioavailability. BIQ is an analog of the natural amino acid methionine and can be used as a protein synthesis inhibitor. It inhibits the production of creatine kinase and other proteins by binding to their corresponding ribosomes. This drug has been shown to be effective in treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease. BIQ also has anti-infectious properties that make it an ideal candidate for the treatment of infectious diseases such as malaria.
