6-Nitro-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde (6NICA) is a nitro compound that inhibits the enzyme in vitro. Carbonyl groups are an important class of compounds and 6NICA has been shown to be a potential intermediate in heterocyclic chemistry. 6NICA is also a potential inhibitor of the enzyme monophosphate dehydrogenase, which catalyzes the oxidation of ATP to ADP. The synthesis of 6NICA is challenging and requires many steps, but this compound has been shown to inhibit the enzyme in vitro.
