Product Information
2-Methoxy-6-phenylpyridine is an organic compound that contains a benzyl group. It can be synthesized by the cyanation of 2-methoxybenzaldehyde and phenylnitrile. This reaction produces a mixture of nitriles, with the major product being 2-methoxy-6-(2-methoxyphenyl)pyridine. 2-Methoxy-6-phenylpyridine can also be synthesized by the oxidative cleavage of nitrobenzene with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of potassium permanganate. This reaction produces yields of 48% for 2-methoxy-6-(2,4,6)phenylpyridine and 54% for 2,4,6-(2-methoxyphenyl)pyridinium chloride.
