h-7-Hydroxy-D-Tic-OH is a dopamine analog that has shown potent antibacterial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. h-7-Hydroxy-D-Tic-OH binds to the D2 region of the bacterial cell wall and disrupts the crosslinking of peptidoglycan strands. This binding inhibits cell wall synthesis and eventually leads to cell death by an unknown mechanism. It has been shown that h-7-Hydroxy-D-Tic OH binds to mesenteric tissue in rats, which may be due to its hydroxyl group and amido functional groups.
