Product Information
4-(Oxiran-2-ylmethoxy)benzoic acid is a benzoic acid derivative that crystallizes in the monoclinic system. It has been shown to be synthesized by heating 4-acetoxybenzoic acid with oxirane and methanol at reflux for 30 minutes, then cooling the reaction mixture to room temperature. Crystals of 4-(oxiran-2-ylmethoxy)benzoic acid have been grown by recrystallization from ethanol and water. The crystal structure was determined by x-ray crystallography. Triclinic crystals are not observed, but dimers are observed in the crystal structure. This compound crystallizes as a monoclinate salt of the carboxyl anion.
