2′,6′-Dihydroxy-4′-methoxydihydrochalcone (2′,6′-DHDMC) is a carotenoid that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes, which is resistant to many antibiotics and exhibits a high rate of resistance to the fluoroquinolone group. 2′,6′-DHDMC has been shown to inhibit the production of tyrosinase in melanocytes and also prevents the oxidation of n-hexane. This compound has also been shown to have growth inhibitory activity against S. aureus and other bacterial species.
