3-(2-Bromo-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)propanenitrile is a chemical compound that is synthesised by reacting acrylonitrile with trifluoroacetic acid and malonic acid in the presence of citric acid. It is used in the synthesis of ivabradine, which is a drug used to treat heart failure. 3-(2-Bromo-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)propanenitrile has a ligand that binds to ATP and blocks the flow of ions across cell membranes. This action reduces the electrical currents in heart muscle cells and increases their sensitivity to calcium, resulting in less frequent and less severe heartbeats.
