Product Information

Name:
3-Bromo-4-hydroxysulfolane
Description:

3-Bromo-4-hydroxysulfolane is a synthetic compound that reacts with oxazole and thiazoles to form cycloadducts. This reaction is known as the Diels-Alder reaction. The reactivity of 3-bromo-4-hydroxysulfolane is increased by the presence of heteroaromatic compounds, such as furan, pyrrole, thiophene, and indole. 3-Bromo-4-hydroxysulfolane can be converted to quinoxaline via methanolysis. The lability of this substance makes it difficult to isolate from other products in crude oil or natural gas. Aluminum has been shown to increase reactivity by stabilizing the 3-bromo group.
