2,2'-[1,4-Phenylenebis(oxy-2,1-ethanediyloxy)]diethanol (BODIPY) is a fluorinated aromatic compound that has been used as a probe for electron diffraction studies. In the solid state, BODIPY exhibits strong fluorescence and a large Stokes shift. The molecule also displays magnetic properties and is able to emit a very intense light at room temperature. It has been found to be an excellent ligand in supramolecular chemistry, such as cyclophanes.
