Product Information
Spiro[3.5]nonan-1-ol is a regioselective, intramolecular aldehyde that is obtained from the coupling of two molecules of acetaldehyde. This compound has been computationally analyzed and shown to undergo an intramolecular cyclization reaction in which the carbonyl group is converted into a ring. The diastereoselectivity of this reaction can be controlled by changing the solvent and temperature, but it is not affected by the presence or absence of a base. Spiro[3.5]nonan-1-ol has been shown to catalyze the reaction between two molecules of benzaldehyde to form an indane derivative with high diastereoselectivity in the presence of potassium hydroxide as a catalyst.
