Cobalt sulfatehydrate is a naturally occurring compound that is used as an active ingredient in dietary supplements. It is also used in the manufacturing of Chinese medicine formulas, such as for the treatment of constipation. This drug has been shown to be effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, cobalt sulfatehydrate has been shown to cause a significant increase in creatine kinase activity, which may be due to its ability to stimulate ATP production. This drug can also induce polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in bacteria by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, which are involved in maintaining bacterial DNA structure and stability. Cobalt sulfatehydrate is soluble in water and effervescent, and it is metabolized by oxidation or reduction processes into cobalamin (vitamin B12).
