1,2-Didecanin-sn-glycerol is an activated form of glycerol that has been shown to inhibit ATP-sensitive K+ channels. It binds to the amide group on the channel protein and blocks it, thereby inhibiting the release of Ca2+ from intracellular stores. This compound also inhibits skin tumor formation in CD-1 mice. The inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) by 1,2-didecanin-sn-glycerol may be due to its ability to inhibit EGFR tyrosine phosphorylation. 1,2-Didecanin-sn-glycerol has a phase transition temperature at which it changes from liquid to solid state and can be used as a natural ingredient in cosmetics such as lipsticks and moisturizers. The hydroxyl groups on this molecule are critical for its inhibitory properties.
