Product Information
- Cerium(IV) fluoride
- Ceriumfluoride4
- Ceriumfluoridehydratepowder
Cerium(IV) fluoride hydrate is a crystalline material with the chemical formula CeF2. It is produced by reacting cerium(IV) oxide and hydrogen fluoride in a reaction vessel. Cerium(IV) fluoride hydrate is used as an additive to polymeric matrices, such as polyvinylchloride, for the purpose of improving their mechanical properties. The mechanism of this improvement is unknown, but it may be due to the crosslinking of polymer chains that are induced by CeF2. Cerium(IV) fluoride hydrate has been shown to react with chloride ions to form hydrogen chloride gas and cerium(III)-chloride complexes when exposed to hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride gas. Cerium(IV) fluoride hydrate has been used as a molecular profile in powder diffraction analysis and was found to have two geometric isomers: monoclinic-CeF2 and orthorhombic-CeF2. Cerium
