It can be used as an enhancement agent for fluorescence techniques, such as transfer and sensor techniques. The absorption maxima for 2-(2-bromoethoxy)benzaldehyde is at 334 nm, which makes it useful in the detection of proton transfer reactions and metal ion binding events. The fluorescence emission maxima for 2-(2-bromoethoxy)benzaldehyde is at 469 nm. This fluorophore has been used in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to monitor conformational changes and to study the interactions of proteins with metal ions.
