Product Information

Name:
4-Butylbenzyl alcohol
Synonyms:
  • (4-Butylphenyl)Methanol
Description:

4-Butylbenzyl alcohol is a chemical compound categorized as an aldehyde. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant, fruity odor which can be used in the production of perfumes and flavorings. 4-Butylbenzyl alcohol is found in chrysophanic acid, ethanolic extracts of plants containing the lactam eugenol, and biphenyl. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against tuberculosis bacteria and potent antimicrobial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The optimization of this compound for use in asymmetric synthesis has led to its use in the production of ethyl decanoate. This process also provides for high yields since 4-butylbenzyl alcohol does not react with the starting material.
