Pleuromutilin-22-mesylate is a pleuromutilin derivative that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Pleuromutilin-22-mesylate is also active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. This compound has been shown to be effective in animal studies as an antibacterial agent, with the potential for use as a phase transfer catalyst.
