1-Methyl-3-(2-thienyl)-piperazine is an oxazoline analog that has a variety of pharmacological effects. It is a presynaptic inhibitor with maleate and ethyl ester profiles, which means it inhibits the release of neurotransmitters from nerve cells. It also has a substance P release inhibiting effect and is an antidepressant with mianserin hydrochloride properties. 1-Methyl-3-(2-thienyl)-piperazine may be an antagonist to the N-methyl-Daspartate receptor and may have a neuroprotective function against glutamate toxicity.
