Product Information
7-(Benzyloxy)-5-hydroxy-2-phenyl-4H-chromen-4-one is a modification of the natural product vinblastine. It has shown anticancer activity in human nasopharyngeal cancer cells, and is thought to be responsible for the antitumor effects of scutellariae extract. The modification is hypothesized to have taken place through nucleophilic attack by a hydroxide ion on the benzyl alcohol group on the 7 position. This mechanism would lead to the formation of an epoxide intermediate, which would then react with another molecule of 7-(benzyloxy)-5-hydroxy-2-phenyl-4H-chromen-4 one to form an acetate ester and a molecule of water.
