Phellodendron amurense is a plant that belongs to the genus Phellodendron. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries and is used as an antitumor agent. The anticancer activity of Phellodendron amurense has been shown in animal models to be due to its ability to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in cancer cells. In addition, it has been shown that Phellodendron amurense can inhibit tumor growth by interfering with the cell cycle, which may be related to inhibition of DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. The use of this plant extract has also shown some potential for pain relief in human subjects. The active compounds found in Phellodendron amurense are mainly saponins, which have anti-inflammatory properties and are thought to be responsible for the analgesic effects observed in human subjects.
