It is also used to synthesize polyketides. 3-((4-Methoxybenzyl)oxy)propan-1-ol reacts with a variety of aldehydes and ketones, including cyclopentanone, acetophenone, benzaldehyde, and benzophenone. In addition to its use as an organocatalyst, this chemical can be used as an ammonium salt in the preparation of polymeric ion exchangers. This compound has been found to have acidic properties.
