- Di-O-methylcurcumin
Dimethoxycurcumin is a physiological active analogue of curcumin. It has been shown to selectively inhibit the expression of genes involved in the apoptosis pathway, such as dna methyltransferase and mitochondrial membrane potential, and suppress the proliferation of HL-60 cells. It also exhibits genotoxic effects on human lymphocytes. Dimethoxycurcumin is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to form dihydroxycurcumin and tetrahydroxycurcumin. It has low solubility in water and poor bioavailability due to its reactive nature, which may be attributed to its phenolic hydroxyl groups.
