Acotiamide hydrochloride is a drug that inhibits the metabolism of acotinamide, an intermediate in the urea cycle. It has been shown to be effective in treating metabolic disorders such as diabetic neuropathy and hyperammonemia. Acotiamide hydrochloride is chemically stable, does not react with other compounds, and shows no carcinogenic potential. The mechanism of action for this drug is still unknown, but it may work by decreasing the production of ammonia or by blocking the activity of enzymes that are involved in its synthesis. Acotiamide hydrochloride also blocks the activity of enzymes that break down acotinamide, which leads to an increase in its concentration in blood plasma.
