Acotiamide is a drug that has been used for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. It is believed to act by blocking the activity of certain receptors, which may be responsible for the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. Acotiamide has shown to have chemical stability in human serum and does not appear to have any carcinogenic potential. It also does not cause metabolic disorders or autoimmune diseases. Acotiamide has been found to inhibit the reaction between fluoroacetamide and guanidine hydrochloride, with an IC50 of 3-4 mM, and it also inhibits the formation of hydrogen peroxide in a reaction solution containing acetamide and hydrogen peroxide. Acotiamide seems to work by binding to cysteine residues in proteins, preventing them from forming disulfide bonds with other proteins or thiols, inhibiting their function. This leads to reduced symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.
