Prinomastat is a metalloprotease inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the proteolytic activity of matrix metalloproteinase. Prinomastat hydrochloride also has anti-coagulation properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the proteolysis of plasma proteins by activated factor Xa. This drug has been shown to have a strong effect on the expansion of pluripotent stem cells in vitro, and to promote their differentiation into cardiomyocytes. Systemically, prinomastat inhibits blood coagulation by inhibiting the activation of factor Xa.
