Silvestrol aglycone is a tetracyclic compound that has been shown to have anti-tuberculosis activity. It is an elemental, triquetrum compound and has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis in mice. Silvestrol aglycone was found to be the most active of the triquetrumones for the treatment of tuberculosis. The drug binds to bacterial ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis by preventing the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids. Silvestrol aglycone also contains coumarins, which are known for their anti-inflammatory activities.
