Stigmasterol-d5 is a potent and specific activator of the ion channels TRPV1 and TRPA1. It is also an inhibitor of the ligand-gated ion channel, nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). Stigmasterol-d5 binds to the protein, with a K d of 0.06 μM. The binding affinity is higher than that of capsaicin, which has a K d of 0.05 μM. This compound has been used as a research tool in cell biology and neuroscience studies.
