1,2,5-Thiadiazepane 1,1-dioxide (TDDO) is a new chemical compound that was synthesized using microwaves for the first time. The synthesis of TDDO involved the use of one-pot microwave irradiation of 1,2,5-thiadiazole and dioxane to produce a mixture containing both TDDO and its diastereoisomer. This process was efficient and yielded over 99% pure TDDO with a yield of up to 81%. The high energy efficiency of this reaction is due to the use of microwaves as an energy source. TDDO has been shown to be soluble in water and this property could lead to potential applications in carbohydrate chemistry.
