EPPTB-d5 is a low-potency compound that inhibits the synthesis of pro-apoptotic proteins, such as Bax and Bid. The drug has been shown to protect against glutamate and dopamine toxicity in vitro. EPPTB-d5 also blocks tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced activation of mesenteric mast cells, which may be due to inhibition of 5HT2 receptors. This potentiates the physiological effects of EPPTB-d5, including locomotor activity, anxiety, and depression. EPPTB-d5 is a potential drug target for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and other brain disorders associated with apoptosis pathway dysfunction.
