Acyclovir-d4 is a prodrug form of acyclovir that was developed to address problems associated with the instability and bioavailability of acyclovir. Acyclovir-d4 is a prechilled, stable formulation of acyclovir that is administered intravenously. Acyclovir-d4 is an ion-exchange resin that binds to the drug during chromatographic purification, followed by elution with phosphate buffer solution.
