2-[(E)-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]-N-phenyl-1-hydrazinecarbothioamide is a ligand that binds to the active site of many bacterial enzymes, including subtilisins, which are proteolytic enzymes used for the degradation of proteins. The compound was found to be an antibacterial agent against Staphylococcus aureus. The compound has two geometric isomers and can exist in either the tautomeric or mononuclear form. A number of spectroscopic techniques have been used to study these forms, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance (DNP), and x-ray diffraction.
